20th Annual Green & Gold Gala (An annual event to raise funds for the child and youth programs of Family Services. Held in partnership with the Green Bay Packers.)

Daddy Boot Camp (A class for "rookie" dads in the Oshkosh area to get hands-on coaching from "veteran" dads on caring for their newborn)

Nurturing (Birth to 12 years) (For families with children ages infant to 12 years)

Sexual Abuse support groups (The Sexual Assault Center of Family Services provides two support groups free of charge, for any woman who is dealing with past or present issues of sexual assault.)

T.I.P.S. (Topics to Increase Parenting Skills) (For families with children ages 2 to 12 years)

August 2008

Baby Basics  (For dads or dads-to-be in the Fox Valley area)

Baby Basics for New Dads is a three hour class that covers the basic skills required to properly care for infants from birth to 3 months, focusing on their physical needs as well as their health and development. Dads learn how to handle, feed, burp, change, clean, and respond to their baby’s needs. They will discuss what to expect in the upcoming months and how to enhance their relationship with the baby's mother. The class provides an opportunity for dads to talk openly about their experiences and get answers to their questions.

When: Saturdays, Aug 16, Sept 20, Oct 18, Nov 15 and Dec 20  

          (3rd Saturday of each month),  9:00 am - Noon

Daddy Boot Camp  (For new dads and their babies in the Oshkosh area)

New babies don’t show up with an owner’s manual! Daddy Boot Camp is a three-hour class that gives expectant and new dads first-hand information to prepare them for the exciting and challenging new world ahead of them.

When: Saturdays, August 23, September 27, October 25, November 22, and December 13, 2008,  9:00 am - Noon

Where: Aurora Medical Group, Community Education Room, 855 N Westhaven Dr, Oshkosh

Cost: $10.00

Green & Gold Gala  (An annual event to raise funds for the child and youth programs of Family Services)

Mark your calendars! The 20th Annual Green & Gold Gala has been set for the evening of Friday, September 5, 2008. Held in partnership with the Green Bay Packers at the Lambeau Field Atrium, the Green & Gold Gala includes dinner, entertainment, live and silent auctions, and much more!

Just for You  (A group for young parents, ages 15-21, and their babies)

A group for young parents to bring their babies and take part in fun, free parent/child activities. Provides a great opportunity to meet other young parents.

When: Saturdays, Sept 6, Oct 4, and Nov 1, 10:00 am - Noon

Where: Family Resource Center Fox Cities, 1165 Appleton Road, Menasha

Cost: Free

Dads Unlimited Groups  (Groups for new dads)

Dads Unlimited groups are offered specifically for new fathers with children ages newborn to 3 years. An interactive approach will be used to enhance the fathering experience. This group is designed to improve a new dad's personal satisfaction and confidence in his fathering ability. Promises to be a learning experience for all!

When: 2nd Saturday of each month, 9:30 - 10:30 am: 

   -  Sept 13  (The Importance of Fatherhood)

   -  Oct 11  (Sports for Infants and Toddlers)

   -  Nov 8  (Your Child’s Development)

   -  Dec 13  (Kids and Discipline)

   -  Jan 10  (Dealing with Daddy Stress)

   -  Mar 14  (We're a Family!)

Autumn Adventure (A family fun event for families with children ages 10 and younger.)

Join us for a night of family fun! Games, prizes and books for everyone, including the borky express train ride and a tour of an Appleton Fire Dept fire truck. Come dressed for some messy play. Games and activities for kids ages 10 and younger.

When: Monday, September 15, 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Where: Pierce Park, Appleton

Cost: $2 each or $8/family

Nurturing (Birth to 12 years) (A Parent Connection workshop)

A 12-week session that teaches families how to communicate better to strengthen their relationship.

When: Tuesdays, September 16 through December 2,  5:30 - 8:00 p.m.

Where: First Congregational Church, 137 Algoma Blvd, Oshkosh

Cost:  $20 book fee (sliding fee scale available)

Child Care: Free

T.I.P.S. - Topics to Increase Parenting Skills

T.I.P.S. is a FREE 8-week series designed for parents of children ages 2-12. Participants will discuss various parenting topics such as behavior management, communication, health and nutrition, and more! The Fall 2008 series will be held on:

     Sept 23 -   Anger Management

     Sept 30 -   Raising Healthy Kids

     Oct 7 -       Rules, Rituals & Routines

     Oct 21 -     Joyful Hellos and Tear-free Goodbyes

     Oct 28 -     Understanding Your Child’s Temperament

     Nov 4 -      50 Ways to Save Money in 50 Minutes

     Nov 11 -    The Importance of Fathers

     Nov 18 -    Raising Strong, Healthy Families

When: Tuesdays (as shown above),  6:15 - 7:15 p.m.

Where: First United Methodist Church, 325 East Franklin Street, Appleton

Cost: Free when registered in advance

Child Care: Free for children ages infant to nine years (must be registered at least four days in advance)

Sponsors: Childcare Resource and Referral; UW Extension; Affinity Health System; Children’s Health Education Center; FI$C; Head Start; First United Methodist Church of Appleton; and Parent Connection, a program of Family Services of Northeast Wisconsin. Funded by the Community Foundation.
