The following volunteer opportunities are available at Family

Coming
Home Project (Green Bay)
Program
Description: The Coming
Home Project is a community-based, after-school and summer program
that promotes positive self-esteem, good decision making, and
positive peer relationships. The program targets minority
youth and offers educational support, recreational activities,
and opportunities for creative expression, including t-shirt
printing. Family Services currently operates a Southeast Asian
site and a Hispanic site, though youth of any nationality are
welcome to attend.
Volunteer Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of
age.
Volunteer Duties: Volunteers may assist in tutoring,
recreational activities, community service, supervision of
field trips, or the running of process groups. Volunteers
have the flexibility to participate in the activities that
interest them.
Volunteer commitment hours:
Minimum time commitment is 3 hours a week (one day per week). Hours of operation are September through May: 2:30 - 7:00 pm
and June through August: 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.
Day
Treatment (Fox
Valley)
Program
Description: Day
Treatment provides intensive counseling services to
children and adolescents who are exhibiting behavioral and/or
emotional problems. The program offers individual and family
counseling, group therapy, and educational assistance, helping
parents to set goals for their child and monitor progress
toward achieving those goals.
Volunteer Requirements:
Must be at least 18 years of
age, have a good driving record,
reliable transportation, proof of liability car
insurance, and complete a background check.
Volunteer Duties: Volunteers
in this program would transport up to three youth, ages 8-13, to and from
the Day Treatment facility in Appleton.
Volunteer commitment hours:
As needed. Days may vary, typically Monday - Friday mornings,
7:30 - 8:30 am and afternoons 1:30 - 3:30 pm.
Parent
Connection
(Menasha, Oshkosh)
Program
Description:
Parent
Connection
supports families in the Fox Valley area by providing a variety of services
including: educational workshops on a variety of parenting issues,
family
fun events, an early-learning home-based
visitation program for first-time parents, a mentoring program
for teen parents, and more.
Volunteer Duties:
Resource Library Assistant: Organize and
catalog books, videos, toys, and tapes for resource library;
design a check-out/check-in system. 1-2 hrs per week.
Workshop Registrar:
Assist
facilitators on first day of workshop signing people in,
setting
up meeting room and organizing child care workers. Dates and
times vary - usually evenings, approximately one hour a week.
Child Care Workers:
Assist
in supervision of children (infant to 11 years) while parents
participate in workshops. Occasionally weekday mornings. This
is a paid position.
Playgroup Facilitator:
Commit to three hours per week facilitating a play group for
parents
and children, infant to age four.
Family Fun Event Volunteer:
Assist
staff and event organizer with games and crafts the day of the
event. Children’s activities, serving food, registering
families. Events in March, and September. You can sign up for
as many as you like. Community Affairs Representatives help
staff at information tables during community events.

Safe
Exchange Program
(Appleton)
Program
Description:
The mission of the Safe Exchange Program is to
provide a neutral, child friendly environment to bring about
the physical transfer of children without contact between
their placement and non-placement parents whereby the children
will be assured a safe exchange free from parental conflict
and violence.
Volunteer Requirements:
Prefer college students enrolled in a Human Services program
or related field. Some experience working with families and
children is required. Must be 18 years or older.
Volunteer Duties:
Volunteers will help provide a neutral and safe environment
for children during the physical transfer of the child without
contact between parents.
Volunteer Commitment Hours: No specific amount required.
Sexual
Assault Center
(Green
Bay)
Program
Description:
The Sexual Assault Center
provides advocacy, support and information to victims of
sexual assault/abuse and their families and/or friends. These
services are provided in Brown, Door and Oconto Counties.
Volunteer
Requirements: Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.
No experience necessary, will train. Access to transportation
needed.
Volunteer
Duties: Volunteers assist in maintaining the
24-hour coverage of the Sexual Assault Center hotline, provide
information and referrals to callers, respond to requests for
advocates while on call, provide legal, medical and emotional
support to victims and their friends/families.
Volunteer
Commitment hours: Volunteers staff the 24-hour
hotline at least 2 times per month according to their own
availability and agree to remain a volunteer for a minimum of
one year.
Teen
Court (Green
Bay)
Program
Description: Teen Court
is a program for juveniles, ages 12-16, who commit non-violent
ordinance violations. The offenders admit their guilt in
municipal court and can voluntarily enter the Teen Court
system. There they will receive a sentence from a teen jury as
an alternative to the municipal court sentence. High school
volunteers are trained to act as lawyers, clerks, bailiffs,
and jurors in order to determine an appropriate sentence for
the teen defendant.
Volunteer
Requirements: Must be in grades 9-12 or a past defendant,
respect the oath of confidentiality, and demonstrate maturity
and sensitivity.
Volunteer
Duties: Teen Lawyers question the defendant and the
defendant's parent to make sentence recommendations. Clerks
announce the case and swear-in the defendant and parent
Bailiffs help maintain order during the proceedings. Jurors
listen to testimony before deliberating and arriving at a
final sentence.
Commitment
Hours Required: Court proceedings are held on
Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Volunteers must attend an
initial training session, and should be able to attend court
1-2 times each month, although this is flexible. Volunteers
are asked to participate for at least six
months. NOTE: We also need Attorneys of
Law to volunteer as judges.
Volunteers
in Probation
(Green Bay)
Program
Description:
Volunteers in Probation
(VIP) is designed
to divert people who have
broken the law for the first or second time, from doing so
again. One of the
main diversionary tactics used is the volunteer, who serves as
a mentor to a program participant, providing guidance &
support during the probation period.
Volunteer
Requirements: Must be 21 years of age or older
and willing to sign and endorse confidentiality policies. The
volunteer must be able to attend a short interview &
orientation, and willing
to attend occasional informational sessions offered to all VIP
volunteers.
Volunteer
Duties: Volunteers are
matched one-on-one with a
client to help monitor progress on required conditions &
assist the client in developing better life skills, a positive
attitude & better decision-making skills.
Volunteer
Commitment Hours: Able to meet with a client twice a month for a total of 3-5 hours
each month. Should be available for at least a six-month
period.
